Kailash Bhatangar - 100 years

Confidence, Trust and the Courage to Go Further

“Never lose confidence in yourself. And earn the trust of your family.”

Kailash Bhatangar does not hesitate when she shares her advice. At 100 years old, her words are clear, direct and shaped by a life that required both courage and determination.

She was born in India at a time when very few girls were given the opportunity to be educated. For many, that path simply did not exist. But Kailash believed in something different. More importantly, she earned the trust of her family, especially her mother, who supported her decision to continue her studies.

That trust changed the course of her life.

Kailash went on to attend university, an achievement that was rare for women of her generation. Education was not just a personal milestone, but a step forward in a world that offered limited opportunities to women. She later began her career in education and eventually became a school principal, a position that reflected both her capability and her persistence.

Her story is not only about what she achieved, but how she achieved it. Confidence alone was not enough. Trust, both in herself and from those around her, played an equally important role.

Outside of her professional life, Kailash found joy in art. After moving to Australia, she continued to pursue painting, teaching herself through study and practice. Her artwork was never created for sale, but as a reflection of personal expression and fulfilment.

Her philosophy on life is simple. What you gain, you should give. To her, life is not only about achievement, but about contribution. It is a balance of receiving and giving back.

When she reflects on her life, there is a quiet sense of pride. Not only in her accomplishments, but in the values she has carried with her throughout her journey.

Kailash’s story highlights the importance of independence, purpose and lifelong growth. For many older Australians, maintaining that sense of purpose remains just as important as physical wellbeing.

Support such as Home Care Packages and the Support at Home program enables individuals to continue living independently while receiving the care they need. This allows people to stay connected to the routines, interests and passions that shape their identity.

Organisations like My Guardian provide personalised in home care, companionship and daily support that respects each individual’s life journey. With the right support, independence and purpose can continue well into later years.

Kailash Bhatangar’s life is a powerful reminder that confidence, trust and the willingness to keep learning can open doors, even when they seem closed.
