Australia’s story is shaped by many lives, generations, and moments of contribution. Following the My Guardian Centenarians’ Lunch where 150 Australians aged 100 and beyond gathered in a world-record moment, My Guardian was inspired to listen, reflect, and share the stories that make our nation proud.
Born in Berridale, Elise was the youngest of four children and was raised by her aunt and uncle due to her mother’s illness. She remembers her childhood with gratitude, knowing she was deeply loved.
As a young woman, Elise worked in the army and was frequently photographed, with her images appearing on buses and trains across the country.
Leonard was born in Wellington, New South Wales, and learned to swim in the Macquarie River as a teenager, often spending time fishing and shooting ducks with his father.
At just eighteen, he began work on the Dubbo railway in 1940 and later that year joined the air force, taking him from Tocumwal to Canada, years he remembers as both demanding and defining.
Stories of everyday Australians, moments of pride, and the values that continue to shape our nation.
