LARGEST GATHERING OF CENTENARIANS

Peter Manners - 101 years

Keep Moving, Keep Living

Peter Manners has never been someone who believed in slowing down.

Born in the United Kingdom, he studied in Acton before going on to university in London. His early career began in fabric sales, a role that unexpectedly took him far beyond where he started. Through his work, he travelled across Australia and throughout East Asia, including India and China, gaining a perspective shaped by movement, change and experience.

But if you ask him for advice, he will tell you something simple.
“Don’t spend your life selling fabrics.”

There is humour in the way he says it, but also honesty. For Peter, life was never about standing still. It was about staying engaged, staying active and continuing to move forward.

He carried that mindset into every stage of his life. Physical activity was not something he gave up with age. He continued running well into his later years, maintaining both strength and independence long after most would have slowed down.

One of the things he is most proud of is his service with the Royal Air Force. His commitment extended beyond the war, requiring long periods away from home. It was a life of movement and duty, shaped by responsibility and resilience.

Yet among all his experiences, one stands out above the rest. Becoming Australian. It is something he speaks about with genuine pride, a defining moment in a life that has crossed countries, cultures and generations.

Peter’s story is not about age. It is about momentum.

It is about continuing to live, to move and to engage with the world, regardless of the number attached to your years.

For many older Australians, maintaining that sense of independence and activity is essential. Support such as Home Care Packages and the Support at Home program helps individuals continue living safely in their own homes while staying active and connected.

With the right support, slowing down does not have to mean stopping.

Organisations like My Guardian provide personalised in home care, companionship and day to day assistance, enabling people to maintain their routines, independence and quality of life.

Peter Manners’ life is a powerful reminder that staying active is not just about physical movement. It is about mindset. And sometimes, the best way to keep living is simply to keep moving.
